MARGAO: Goa Mahila Shakti Abhiyan (GMSA) chairperson Nelly Rodrigues, who is also the former South Goa ZP chairperson, has expressed disbelief over the insufficient funds given to the zilla panchayats. She said, “The State gives only Rs 5 lakh per zilla panchayat, which is not enough. The Director of Panchayats has also failed to get funds for us. I met the Panchayats Minister Rajendra Arlekar and explained the situation to him.”
Nelly was speaking at the launch of GMSA’s ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign, which is being undertaken in association with the Department of Science and Technology and women’s wing of the Lions Club, on Thursday.
As part of the event, GMSA organised a talk on solid waste management and a quiz competition for schools and colleges. It also presented garbage collection equipment to Rosary College, Margao.
Sanguem MLA Subhash Phal Dessai urged Goans to keep their State clean and said, “The Prime Minster’s Swacch Bharat Abhiyan will succeed only when people consciously work towards keeping their areas clean.”
