Four Jharkhand men held for violent assault on police at Canaginium

Four men from Jharkhand, identified as Jebiyar Dung Dung of Varca, and Suresh Hariya, Rahul Kisan, and Amit Lohra of Betul, were arrested by Cuncolim Police on August 17 following a violent assault at Sunset Point near Parul University in Canaginium.

Police said the group, along with two others who are currently absconding, formed an unlawful assembly, armed themselves with stones, and attacked two on-duty constables, Sairaj Naik and Anup Kavrekar. The accused allegedly pelted stones, punched, and kicked the officers during the confrontation. Constable Kavrekar sustained head and multiple body injuries from stone blows, while Constable Naik was also assaulted.

Cuncolim Police have registered the case as an attempt to murder, invoking provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to unlawful assembly, assault on public servants, and attempted murder.

The incident occurred while the constables were performing their lawful duties in the area. A manhunt has been launched to trace the two remaining suspects. News of the attack triggered tension locally, prompting authorities to step up security as a precaution.
