PANJIM: While mega bridges are being proposed across the State to augment infrastructure and ease traffic congestion, the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) is proposing a four-lane bridge in the State capital that would connect Patto Plaza to Mala over the Ourem Creek and would further connect Dona Paula with a by-pass.
This project is part of the infrastructure development plan for one of Panjim’s popular routes Rua de Ourem ~ possibly the next alternate entry/exit to and from Panjim.
“The four-lane bridge is in the design stage and land is being acquired for the by-pass from the end of Rua de Ourem extending to Dona Paula,” said a top official of the Corporation.
The by-pass also proposed to be a four-lane would virtually rid the city roads from traffic congestion diverting vehicular movement off city roads and facilitate quicker entry or exit from the State capital.
The GSIDC has floated tenders for the mega project and is one of the many plans being executed as part of the wholistic development of Panjim city.
Likewise, the Corporation has also proposed to beautify the Miramar-Dona Paula stretch with pavements, cycle tracks, landscaping, street lighting, demarcating accesses to the beach and so on.
As part of upgradation of existing infrastructure, the Corporation plans to construct an all new permanent jetty at Kala Academy.
The plan according to officials, is to demolish the existing jetty which was constructed for IFFI and replace it with a new one.
The GSIDC is already working on new jetties for the Captain of Ports, Fisheries department and now at Kala Academy.
“Panjim would now have a string of jetties starting with the cruise boat jetty below Mandovi bridge upto Dona Paula,” said the official of the GSIDC adding that this would facilitate utilization of inland waterways for transportation facilities.
This again, GSIDC points out is part of the long-term wholistic development plan for the capital city.
