BICHOLIM: The Animal Rescue Squad (ARS) and Forest Department on Friday nabbed four persons from Nuvem while allegedly catching and transporting Indian Flapshell Turtles and Indian Bull Frogs at Salvador Do Mundo, Bardez.
According to information, ARS Chief Amrut Singh acted on a tip-off from locals that some persons were catching turtles and frogs at Salvador-do-Mundo.
He rushed to the site along with another ARS member, John Fernandes, and they confirmed that four person were poaching from the nearby ponds.
The ARS alerted the Campal forest department, who swung into action and caught the four persons, between the ages of 43 and 50, besides seizing a vehicle.
The forest department officials comprising Dy RFO Deepak Tandel, Round Forester Babi Naik, Forest Guard Shamba Dhurat and Kavita Kalangutkar took part in the operation.
