VASCO: The demolition of four open toilets located neat Maruti temple Chotta Bazaar at Baina, Vasco triggered anger and panic amongst the people using these toilets on Wednesday afternoon.
The aggrieved residents complained that the municipal authorities failed to issue any prior notice to them before going ahead with demolition and leaving them to face undue hardship.
On the other hand, MMC claims that the toilets were causing nuisance for the public and the action was initiated after few complaints about the discharge of sewerage in open causing health risk and thus necessary action has been initiated following due procedures.
“Municipal authorities had served notices on the people who were using the toilets. The people were asked to construct a soak pit or else they should obtain a sewer connection through the sewerage department, but they failed to do so,” said MMC chairperson Deepak Naik.
“The toilets were a health hazard to the people and there were chances of spread of viral diseases, if the nuisance was not stopped,” he added.
