The front’s demand is backed by the Congress, with MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, assuring the front to pressurize the government to withdraw the entire amendment during the session, beginning on Monday.
Addressing a joint press conference, the Front and Congress extended support to Congress MLA Vishwajit Rane, who has announced a march to the Assembly with farmers and tenants of Sattari if government fails to withdraw the amendment.
“The withdrawal of the sunset clause is just eyewash. The entire controversy surrounds Section 4(a) that has granted ownership rights to landlords and Section 46(b) where tenancy cases are transferred to civil courts. These amendments too need to be withdrawn,” convener Ganesh Gaonkar said.
Meanwhile, the Bodgeshwar Farmers’ Association has also decided to march to the Assembly on August 10 opposing the move to open the outline development plan (ODP) of Mapusa for review.
