PANJIM: After a gap of almost one and half month, the Panjim Municipal Market is likely to open for general public in next two days, making it functional full-fledged.

In view of COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, the market was shut from March 22. The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) on Monday sanitised the market complex, as well as held cleanliness drive throughout the day. Mayor Uday Madkaikar supervised the entire exercise.
Speaking to the media persons, Madkaikar said that the corporation intends to throw open market for public in next two days. “Before that we want to clean it fully and also sanitise the area,” he said.
Madkaikar said that no vendors or stall that sells tobacco or smokeless tobacco products would be allowed in the market.
Also, he said, all the norms of social distancing would be maintained. “We will demarcate space for the vendors with proper distancing, wearing of face mask would be mandatory both for the vendors and customers,” he said.
The fish market has already started functioning from Sunday.
