CUNCOLIM: The meeting convened by the Cuncolim Municipal Council chief officer to discuss the issue of shifting of fair from Cuncolim Market to Kalta ground turned chaotic.
Agitated over the decision taken by Chief Officer Shankar Gaonkar and Chairperson Polita Carneiro, local MLA Clafacio Dias and opposition councillors harshly question the duo for taking the decision to shift feast fair from market to Kalta ground.
Opposition Councillors Videsh Desai and Lavita Mascarenhas said that the decision to shift the fair was unwarranted.
When ex-chairperson Mario Moreas tried to cite a High Court as the reason for shifting the fair, those present hackled Moreas and some even shouted slogans against him and forced him into silence. The High Court order reportedly prohibits any celebration close to the highway.
Meanwhile, some locals even accused the ruling group and the CO of having taken the decision to shift the feast fair for financial benefits.
On his part, the chief officer said that some of the furniture and cloth vendors had approached him seeking permission put up stalls near the KTC bus stand to during feast fair, but no permission was given to anyone.
