PANJIM: The project developers, Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation, headed by the Chief Minister, have promised a prefect future which will offset the current mess.
According to GSIDC, the road will be a showcase for the capital and after it is concretised it will not develop potholes for 50 years and therefore will not require resurfacing for as many years.
GSIDC sources say that the cycle track will also be cast in concrete and will be around 2.5 meter wide. It is supposed to have a layer of rubber on the surface.
The road will also have underground ducts on both sides for utility cables and the road will not be dug up for laying any cables.
The GSIDC, through the ‘Imagine India’ brand got the master plan drafted by LBK India consultants.
The plan was completed, a presentation made and kept out for peoples objections too.
According to GSIDC officials, all the work will be taken up on a priority basis, the list of some 7-8 which had already been prepared during the presentation that was held some time back.
Dona Paula will also be connected to Bambolim by the Bambolim-Dona Paula road four-laning project. The work that started in December 2013 was supposed to have been completed in 210 days.
The project consists of four-laning of a 7km stretch of road from near the Goa Medical College, Bambolim, to the NIO circle in Dona Paula at a cost of Rs 33 crore. The total width is supposed to be 25m, including footpaths on either side, paved shoulders for the road and a 1m wide median in the centre. This road too will have ducts for utilities like cables to do away with digging of the road in case cables are to be laid.
The four-laning of the Bambolim-Dona Paula road was envisaged to ease traffic congestion and will complete the four-lane circuit around Panjim. VIP traffic, tourist traffic and traffic to the proposed school complex at Bambolim are the slated users of this road.
Till date, the widening of road from the Goa Medical College till the Aldeia de Goa complex is almost complete. The road width is around 25m but tarring and finishing has not begun. Work is on progress opposite the Shyama Prasad Mukherji stadium but is partly done and very confusing for users as there are no boards and there are sudden stops. But literally nothing has been done from Aldeia de Goa till NIO circle.
