deteriorating sanitary conditions and inaction against illegal hawking
in the area.
Led by President of Gandhi Market vendors Association and Councilor
Rajendra Azgaonkar, the vendors questioned the Civic body over the
failure to lift garbage from the market.
The vendors also protested against the failure to desilt the stinking
nullah passing through the market.
MMC Chairperson Savio Coutinho sought to know from the Chief Officer Y
B Tawde the number of staff deployed in the Gandhi market and their
functions.
Incidentally, Sanitary inspector Viraj Arabekar maintained that the
garbage problem plaguing Gandhi market can be tackled provided the
waste is lifted away continuously.
Azgaonkar later told Herald that the situation in the market is going
from bad to worse.
He said the nullagh remains uncleaned till date, while hawkers squad on
the roads, obstructing free flow of traffic.
Azgaonkar threatened to bring another morcha if the Civic body fails to
act on their demands.
