MARGAO: In an order that was passed at its 326th meeting, the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has issued directions for the demolition of multiple structures constructed illegally by a hotel in Colva, within the no-development zone (NDZ) of the Coastal Regulation Zone CRZ.
These structures were found to be constructed between 200 m and 500 m of the high tide line (HTL), without any approvals.

“This Authority decided to issue demolition orders to the extent of demolishing the pool side restaurant, stage, shower room, fountain, basement below the swimming pool deck, interlocking pavers on concrete base, car porch, security cabin and the cylinder shed, as the same is standing in the property situated in Colva village without any approvals,” read the order. Other structures on the property have been allowed.
GCZMA took this action after complaints were filed by various groups. The views of all the parties were heard, all the documents submitted were scrutinised and the site inspections were conducted by its expert members.
The GCZMA has however rejected the allegations that sand dunes had been destroyed in the process.
