MARGAO: Goa Forward Party (GFP) chief and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai while congratulating Goans for making the Janata Curfew a huge success appealed to the government to announce a package for Goans like the one did by Kerala and urged the Prime Minister’s office to pay special attention to Goa.

Vijai said the deserted roads in the State were testimony to the success of Janata Curfew and said this was possible only because the GFP had objected to the ZP elections being held today along with some concerned Goans who voiced their opinion and journalists who highlighted the actual problems
“Goans have to be congratulated for making social distancing so successful and this will go a long way in stopping the spread of the virus,” he said while pointing out that the very people praising the Janata Curfew would have otherwise been busy ferrying voters to the polling booth and thus spreading the virus more.
“Actually today sense has prevailed over nonsense,” he said adding that today’s Janata Curfew was only a drill and Goans have to be prepared for a complete lock down as the curfew is a mere mean to an end and not the end itself.
While pointing out that the clapping today was for the health workers who are at the forefront in the battle against corona virus, he said similar applause could be given to the government if it comes out with a package for small and medium business houses and the tourism sector which he said has suffered losses of about Rs 1000 crore.
Pointing out that Kerala has already announced a package for its industries, Vijai said the government should also consider the case of the daily wage workers who would suffer a lot in case of a lockdown.
Applauding Goans who have started working from home, he said this would result in an increase in their electricity, water and internet bills and hence urged the prime minister to give some relief to those who have heeded his call for working from home.
Vijai said that if Goa can curb the spread of corona virus it would be a big achievement and grab world attention.
