MAPUSA: Mapusa Chief Officer Clen Madeira has informed that he would impress upon the Health Department and urban health centre in the town to undertake measures, such as spraying of disinfectant, to prevent spread of Coronavirus.

“Precaution is better than cure. Similarly, there is a need spray disinfectants all over. I’ll impress upon the health department that there is need to undertake precautionary measures of spraying disinfectants before there is an outbreak of Coronavirus,” he said.
Madeira further informed that not a single street food vendors, restaurant, movable and fixed kiosks supplying food would be allowed to operate in the town till March 31.
He further informed that he would discuss with his team and make sure that only shops dealing with essential commodities remain open in Mapusa and non-essential commodities such as electronic items, cloths, utensils and others remain closed till March 31. “However, whether this shutdown should continue or not beyond March 31 will be decided after receiving update from the government,” he said.
Appealing for cooperation from the people to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Madeira said, “It is learnt that Coronavirus is air borne and if it is air borne then I appeal people of Mapusa as well as people visiting Mapusa to avoid visiting the town for unnecessary shopping or anything else.”
He informed that to reduce the entry of people in vegetable market and to avoid crowding, he would sit with his team of market inspectors and work out a mechanism where in only a batch of people can be allowed to enter into vegetable market at a time, this batch would be given 10 minutes time to shop and move out.
Meanwhile, the Municipality undertook cleanliness at the fish and vegetable markets, on Sunday. All the walls, doors, grills, locks and floors were washed using disinfectants.
