GFPK appeals for special Gram Sabhas to discuss Draft Agri Policy

MARGAO: Following a successful endeavour to extend the submission deadline for suggestions and objections, the NGO ‘Goyche Fuddle Pillge Khatir’ (GFPK) has urged the Directorate of Panchayats to direct Block Level Officers (BLOs) to convene special gram sabhas across all village panchayats, to facilitate discussion and the passing of resolutions concerning the draft agriculture policy for Goa.

A delegation from GFPK, led by President Jack Mascarenhas, presented a memorandum to the Director of Panchayats on Wednesday, outlining their request for these special gatherings.

“This would not only stimulate positive interest but also foster trust among the populace in the policy-making process and governance,” he said.

GFPK had previously alerted the department to their diligent study of the draft agriculture policy. They have been engaging with farmers to help them comprehend the implications and recommendations of the Policy.

Mascarenhas highlighted that if regular gram sabhas are already scheduled in the near future, the draft agriculture policy should be added as a point of discussion on the agenda.

The meeting with the Director of Panchayats proved fruitful, as he committed to  ensure that BLOs coordinate special gram sabhas across all panchayats to deliberate on the draft agriculture policy.
