PANJIM: The Goa Government Employees Association (GGEA) has resolved to send a reminder to Manohar Parrikar-led government in connection with its long pending demand of parity in pay scales to all categories of government employees.
“In addition to the 6th pay commission, only certain sections are awarded with the increased pay scale while the remaining have been deprived of it. We demand parity in pay scales,” GGEA General Secretary John Nazareth told Herald after a three-hour long meeting at its office on Sunday.
The demand has been pending with the State government since 2010 when the Congress-led coalition was in power.
The meeting, which was attended by taluka chairman, vice chairman, secretary and all working committee members, also demanded monthly pay slips, to stop service extension for retired staff and their contractual appointment as well. These demands will also be sent to the government in a written communiqué as a reminder.
With regards to pay slips, Nazareth explained that ever since salaries of government employees are being credited in the banks, they do not know records of their monthly earnings and how much gets deducted.
As far as their internal working is concerned, the members have decided that taluka and working committees should meet every quarterly and revive the taluka committees, which have completed two years. The association has also increased their membership amount from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000.
Merger of 50 percent DA with basic pay, constitution of 7th pay commission and withdrawal of new pension bill, which is currently pending with the Parliament were demands at the national level.
Nazarete said the three demands have been forwarded to its national body — All India State Government Employees Association. “After their response we will decide our next course of action,” he said.
