PANJIM: The Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) has begun the process to take over nearly 30 industrial plots that were left unutilized or underutilized for last three years. The plots would be now allotted to new industrial players.
Around 142 industrial plot owners were issued show-cause notices by the GIDC in March, after it was it was found out that the land allocated for the industrial development was left unutilized or underutilized, for the last three years.
Almost 65 percent of the plot owners in the various industrial estates have left their plots unutilized or underutilized while the balance 35 per cent have carried out partial construction said an official
Official confirmed that government is currently working on a comprehensive plan to take over the vacant plots and re-allot it. IDC board members would be meeting on December 23 to take final call on it. The meeting would be chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
“The process to take over the plot has already been started after the reply given by the industry players was found unsatisfactory,” official said.
“Around 30 plots would be taken over in the first phase,” official said adding ‘in some case, additional time upto six months have been granted to the plot owners directing to construct and start production within this period’.
Official said that since government is keen on promoting Goa as industrial destination, it has to solve the problem of land. We have enough land in the industrial estates but has been occupied and kept without any use, official said.
State has 24 industrial estates and is in process of notifying few more.
Goa government has already notified plot transfer regulations, as per which, it is mandatory for the plot allocate to utilize 30 percent of its plot along with carrying out certain portion of production activities, before putting up papers for transfer.
