PANJIM: The part-time Executive Masters in Business Administration Programme being conducted by the Goa Institute of Management is helping create an alternative economy in Goa in view of the trying times the state is facing, Dr Sunil Rai Director of Goa Institute of Management said.
Addressing media persons Dr Rai said that the Workplace Improvement Programme (WIP), which was unique to GIM as part of its executive MBA, offered to working executives classes on weekends. This programme is now being further tweaked, considering the employment situation in Goa, he added.
“GIM is committed to the task of providing the industry and society with excellent manpower developed in Goa itself. This year we have designed our PGDM-PT (Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Part Time) curriculum in a way which lays greater emphasis on entrepreneurship, SMEs and family-owned businesses in response to the unemployment situation of the state,” Rai said.
“WIP, which is the only one of its kind in the country which focuses on how to ensure the student, the company he is working for, and the institute would benefit through a flexible and customised programme for each student according to the industry he works in,” Rai said.
GIM’s programme which includes classes on weekends over three years comes at a fee of Rs 2.25 lakh for the whole course payable over two years. The course is targeted at entrepreneurs and small and medium business owners. Classes are held at GIM’s Ribandar campus on Saturday afternoons and Sundays. At the third year there are no classes but only dissertations.
“Goa needs to be future proof with diversified businesses and not be over dependent on any one sector,” Rai said adding that while the full-time MBA usually was of benefit to the students from outside the state, the PGDM-PT was “for the state by the state and of the state.”
