PONDA: Goa Pradesh Congress Party President Girish Chodankar on Sunday launched scathing attack on former Congress MLA Subash Shirodkar, who recently joined to BJP, for failing to provide smooth water supply to Shiroda constituents.
He said that Shiroda voters elected Shirodkar for five years but he betrayed them. “Without solving their problems, he resigned and joined the BJP,” he said and appealed to the party workers to work for the defeat of Shirodkar at the by-election.
Chodankar was speaking at the Janjagruthi Melva at Shiroda organised by Nari Adhikar. The melava was attended by MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco, former chief minister Digambar Kamat, Nari Adhikar President Diya Shetkar, M Sheikh and South Goa General Secretary Subash Faldesai.
Kamat said that Shirodkar failed to give justice to the voters and joined the ruling BJP which failed to solve the problems of the public. He said that BJP failed to provide most important facilities to Hospicio Hospital on which South Goa people depend.
On the occasion, Vanarmare tribal people residing in Nirankal jungles in Bethora submitted a memorandum to Chodankar requesting him to solve their grievances.
The Vanarmare tribes face several problems including toilets, puchha houses, power supply etc. The Vanarmare tribal people numbering around 80 came to focus few years ago, when some people damaged their huts and threatened them to leave the village. Following this, the Human Right Commission directed government to provide them basic necessitates.
