MARGAO: The Global Konknni Forum (GKF) convened its First All Scripts Associations Sammelan on Sunday at Mahim Gymkhana in Mumbai, drawing a strong turnout from various Konknni script associations across Mumbai and the Konkan belt. The event aimed to unite Konknni script associations and galvanize support for the forthcoming All India Konknni Maha Sabha (AIKMS), scheduled to be held later in January in Goa.
Kennedy Afonso, GKF President, stressed the significance of the AIKMS as a major platform to bring together all Konknni scripts in a display of collective strength. Afonso pointed out that Devnagri usage among Konknni speakers stands at only 12%, while the remaining four scripts collectively comprise 88%. “This highlights our strength and the urgent need for unity to combat the injustices inflicted by the Sahitya Akademi and the Goa government,” Afonso said.
The Samelan featured contributions from representatives of the Maharashtra Konknni Kala Sounstha, Konknni Association Charitable Trust, Poetica, Divo, and others. They collectively emphasized the necessity for a unified approach to address the challenges faced by Konknni scripts.
