Till late Sunday evening, a steady stream of visitors paid condolences to the bereaved families whose houses are located in the same area.
While deceased Ralf Pereira, the only son of his parents, was a Std XII student of Multipurpose Higher Secondary, Borda, Ashwin Noronha was a SSC student of Aquem-based secondary school.
Borda Councillor Tito Cardozo said, “On receiving the shocking news of the tragedy at around 3.30 pm, we immediately proceeded to Sanguem to complete the necessary formalities.”
Tito said the boys were reportedly watching a control cricket match in the locality till 12.30 pm when eight of them decided to head to Sanguem on motorcycles. “Since a Lenten religious service was scheduled at the Monte Chapel, the boys must have gone to Sanguem with the plan to return back on time for the service before fate decided otherwise,” Tito said.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai visited the houses of the boys and offered condolences to the bereaved families.
The bodies of the two students were sent to the Goa Medical College and Hospital mortuary at Bambolim for want of space at the Hospicio and TB hospital morgue. The post mortem examinations will take place on Monday.
