Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has called for coordinated efforts among government departments, local bodies and animal welfare organisations to make Goa completely rabies-free by 2047. He stressed the need for responsible pet ownership, regular vaccination and scientific management of the stray-dog population.
Sawant also highlighted Goa’s achievement in 2021 as India’s first rabies-controlled state, saying sustained efforts would be necessary to maintain and build on that progress. The initiative aims to strengthen cooperation between authorities and animal welfare groups while promoting preventive measures to reduce the risk of rabies across the State.
