MARGAO: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Education appears to be “covertly” planning to transfer the valuable funds worth crores of rupees lying in the coffers to the State Finance Department.
In a bid to maintain secrecy, the Board has not even mentioned the meeting agenda in the notice.
Board sources informed that a Special General Council meeting has been called on Friday pertaining to the transfer funds worth Rs 19 crore back to the Finance Department. These funds have been lying in the coffers for quite some time.
The meet has been called without following the rule that mandates sending a seven-day notice prior to the meeting date.
The Executive Council and the Governing Council have already rejected the Board’s plan at the last meeting held on February 24.
Some members of the Executive Council said it may be for the first time that the Board is calling the Special General Council Meeting without an agenda and added that probably the Board plans to push the same agenda again.
“This goes against the basic principles of the Goa Board. This is a corporation, an autonomous body, and the rules and regulations of the establishment of the Goa Board do not allow it to transfer money back just by means of the resolutions,” said a member.
According to sources, the government appointed members Dr Nandkumar Kamat and Dayanand Sopte too have rejected the Board’s move at the earlier meet.
