PANJIM: Ahead of the commencement of admissions to higher secondary schools in the State, the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has streamlined the admission procedure, particularly for students belonging to another board or migrating from another State or country.
The revived system will thus disallow schools in the State to directly enroll the students as admissions will be possible only after Goa Board issues ‘provisional eligibility certificate’ to the candidate concerned. The student has to then apply for final eligibility with the Goa Board.
“Earlier, students would directly approach the higher secondary schools for admissions. We felt many institutions couldn’t judge whether the pass-outs are from recognized school/board. By the time such cases would come to us, the academic year would approach to an end and we had to go through a lengthy procedure like holding back results until clarity, etc,” Goa Board Chairman J R Rebello told Herald.
As a result of the complicated situation arising thereafter, the GBSHSE decided to streamline the admission process for students passing through other Boards by reviving the 15-year-old non-practiced procedure.
For students passing Class X and XI through Goa Board, no documents are required to be submitted for eligibility. However, attested copy of SSC marks list cum passing certificate, attested copy of Class XI marksheet (being an additional document for candidates seeking admissions to Class XII) and original School Leaving Certificate are essential documents for school records.
While pass-outs from ICSE/CBSE through schools located in Goa, other boards or national institute of open schooling need to submit mandatory documents as prescribed by the GBSHSE in addition to original migration certificates, copy of provisional eligibility certificate issued by the Board and application for final eligibility.
“Attestation of copies of all documents is to be done by the principal of the institution. every application should be complete in all respects with all necessary documents attached while applications for eligibility should be grouped as per category and sent to the Board along with the fees,” the guidelines reads adding, “In the international case, the leaving certificate/transfer certificate should bear the counter signature of the authority of Indian Embassy/Consulate in that country.”
