A businessman from Varanasi and his associates have allegedly been cheated of ₹16.6 crore in a fraudulent land deal in Penha de Franca.
According to the complaint, the accused posed as legitimate landowners and entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the victims. To gain their trust, the suspects allegedly produced forged ownership documents and even handed over possession of the land.
The fraud came to light later, prompting the victims to approach authorities. Following the complaint, an FIR has been registered at Bhelupur Police Station against the accused.
Police have invoked relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to cheating, forgery, and criminal breach of trust. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
