Goa Rainfall Report

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Goa under a moderate flash flood risk warning as incessant monsoon rains continue to lash the state, raising concerns over flooding, waterlogging and inundation in low-lying areas.

According to the Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre (RSMC), New Delhi, both North Goa and South Goa are likely to face a moderate flash flood risk over the next 24 hours. The warning has been issued as a well-marked low-pressure area over east Madhya Pradesh continues to influence weather conditions across central and western India, sustaining widespread rainfall activity.

The IMD has cautioned that heavy rainfall may lead to surface runoff and flooding in fully saturated areas, particularly in low-lying localities and flood-prone zones. Residents have been advised to remain alert and follow official advisories as the southwest monsoon remains active over the region.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Centre, Goa, reported widespread rainfall across the state during the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on July 7. Sanguem recorded the highest rainfall at 96.5 mm, followed by Valpoi with 49.8 mm and Dharbandora with 42.4 mm. Margao rainfall data was unavailable. Seasonal rainfall since June 1 has already crossed 1,200 mm in Canacona, highlighting the intensity of this year’s monsoon.

Authorities are closely monitoring the evolving weather situation and are expected to take precautionary measures to minimise the impact of any flooding. Citizens have been urged to avoid venturing into waterlogged areas and remain vigilant during spells of intense rainfall.
