Goa Revises EV Plan for Bike Taxi Pilots, Offers 50% Subsidy on Heavier Electric Bikes

The Goa government has revised its proposal to support the state’s motorcycle taxi pilots by offering a 50 per cent subsidy on heavier electric bikes instead of providing free electric vehicles, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho announced.

Speaking on the initiative, Godinho said the decision was taken after considering the operational requirements of motorcycle taxi pilots, who require more robust electric bikes for their day-to-day work.

He clarified that the scheme will be entirely voluntary, allowing pilots to decide whether they wish to avail of the subsidised electric bikes.

“We will provide whatever help the pilots need. If they find it beneficial, they can use it,” the minister said, reiterating the government’s commitment to supporting the livelihood of motorcycle taxi operators while encouraging the adoption of electric mobility.

The revised scheme aims to strike a balance between promoting sustainable transportation and ensuring that the vehicles offered are practical and suitable for the needs of motorcycle taxi pilots across Goa.
