Goa’s night sky is set for a rare spectacle this Sunday, when a total lunar eclipse will turn the Moon a deep coppery red, an event more popularly known as the Blood Moon. The sequence will begin at 8.58 pm when the Moon moves into the Earth’s penumbral shadow. The main phase, when the umbral shadow becomes visible, will stretch from 9.57 pm until 1.26 am. The highlight of the event is expected at 11.41 pm, when totality sets in and the Moon takes on its striking reddish hue as sunlight refracts around the Earth. The Association of Friends of Astronomy has announced free viewing sessions across Goa. Observatories at Junta House in Panaji and Ravindra Bhavan in Margao will be opened, while sessions will also be hosted at Vidya Prabodhini High School in Porvorim, the Bodgeshwar Temple grounds in Mapusa, and the 1930 Vasco Mall terrace in Vasco.
