BELGAUM: Officials of the Karnataka excise and lottery prevention departments seized Goan liquor worth Rs 30,000 in Kangrali village near Belgaum late on Thursday night.
Despite stringent preventive measures and excise entry points in Goa and Belgaum, the flow of Goan liquor continues unabated.
According to reports, officials acting on specific information raided a house in Kangrali and seized 20 boxes of Goan liquor worth Rs 30,000. Suresh Ramappa Lamani has been arrested in this connection.
According to DySP S G Agadi and CPI N V Barmani who headed the raids, the bottles were meant to be distributed to voters during election campaigning.
It may be recalled that in the biggest haul of illicit Goan liquor, Karnataka police officials belonging to excise and lottery prevention cell had seized liquor worth Rs 6 lakh. A Mahrashtra truck, valued at about Rs 9 lakh, was also attached on April 9 and two persons were arrested while two managed to flee.
The repeated incidents that are occurring regularly on the verge of Karnataka Assembly elections have perplexed the district administration.
