MARGAO: The officials of the Margao Urban Health Centre have commenced aggressive fogging operations in the housing board areas of Gogol and Davorlim to stop the spread of dengue.
Nearly three teams of the health centre were engaged in the fogging operations in the areas of Gogol Housing Board following a dengue case being detected in upper housing board area. A 23-year-old youth has been reportedly detected for dengue and is undergoing treatment.
Nearly a month back, another dengue case was detected in the Ganapati Mandir locality.
Meanwhile, Dr Annette Oliveira, incharge at the Margao Urban Health Centre, confirmed that dengue cases have been detected in these areas.
She said, “We have increased the fogging activity and our teams are on their toes to stop the spread of dengue.”
Meanwhile, the residents have urged the health officials to effectively monitor the areas and if need be to review the situation of vector borne diseases in Margao and Fatorda to prevent breeding of mosquitoes.
The residents have also raised concerns over the water logged areas in Margao and Fatorda, which have turned into perfect breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
It may be recalled that dengue and malaria had gripped the Margao Industrial Estate area after which many officials and the district administration were left red-faced. This year, the cases have been detected near the district hospital site and now in housing board areas of Gogol and Davorlim.
