Electrical goods worth Rs 5 lakh were destroyed in a fire at a workshop in Kharaswada-Mapusa in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Mapusa Fire Station Officer D D Redkar told Herald that the fire services were alerted of the fire in the electrical appliances repair workshop at about 4 am.
“Four fire tenders were pressed into service to extinguish the fire and the operation that lasted about one-and-half hour. Electrical goods like refrigerators, deep freezers, bottle coolers, micro oven, etc, worth Rs 5 lakh that were kept for repairs were destroyed in the fire,” informed Redkar.
“However, property worth Rs 8 lakh was saved. The cause of the fire is not yet known,” added Redkar.
Workshop owner Pascoal Mendonca stated that he suspect foul play by some miscreants.
“About 20 electrical gadgets worth Rs 7 lakh have been destroyed in the fire. The fire broke out at about 3.30 am and since my house is close by to the workshop, I could rush to the site,” said Mendonca.
