Department Information and Technology Director Ameya Abhayankar said the ITIP proposes to rope in at least 10 ITES (IT Enabled Services) and five Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) units in the State hoping to generate direct or indirect employment for 15,000 professionals.
“The IT department will float an online platform to commence the registration process this month,” Abhyankar said.
He said Goa is not in competition with southern States in terms of expansion of the IT sector, even as the State government has allocated funds for to operationalise ITIP 2015-20.
“The State government has earmarked Rs 12 crore during the recent budget for operationalising ITIP 2015-20 through online registration system,” Abhyankar said.
He said Goa is not competing with other States, especially with Southern states like Karnataka. He added that the State government’s key focus is on inviting IT enabled service providers, including startups providing backend operations like medical transcription, banking solutions, engineering services and Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC). The director said KPO is mostly knowledge focused, requiring limited human resource.
Other initiatives of the State government on the IT front include appointment of a consultant in respect of IT Park at Chimbel (near Panjim) and Electronics City at Tuem and master plan for both the sites would be ready in a period of around three months. This was announced by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar in the 2016-17 Budget.
