Parsekar made the statement at a function held to lay the foundation stone for the construction of a government primary school at Toncawado in St Estevam, on Sunday.
Incidentally, the primary school currently functions from the premises provided by the Shree Shantadurga Ravalnath Prassann temple for more than 30 years and there was a demand made by the locals to construct a separate premises for the school with better infrastructure and also as there was a rumour that the school could close down due to lack of facilities.
Parsekar then stated that he feels pained whenever there are reports over closure of schools on account of one reason or another.
“Though there are only 22 students studying in the school, the government decided to build a separate premise since the parents in the village have made the demand,” Parsekar further informed while stating that the BJP government is duty-bound to meet justified demands made in the educational sector.
Speaking further, Parsekar informed that he has directed the officials to complete the school building work in record time and set a time-frame of December 31, this year, as the deadline for the same.
“If the school building gets completed by December 31, this year, I will definitely come back in the village for the inauguration,” he promised.
Speaking on the occasion, local MLA Pandurang Madkaikar expressed confidence that more students will be admitted in the school once the new building is completed.
Madkaikar also informed that it is important to grant primary education to the children in the local languages.
“The land acquisition process was completed a long time back and hence, today, the villagers could see their dream come true,” Madkaikar said while stating that currently, the land acquisition process in cumbersome.
Pramod Sawant, St Estevam sarpanch Nolasco Menezes and others spoke on the occasion. Cumbarjua ZP member Janita Madkaikar, Director of Education Gajanan Bhat, panchas and others were present.
