PANJIM: Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte criticized BJP-led government for not being able to control the corruption in the government offices and claimed that in some offices the corruption has been on the rise.

Participating in the discussion on the budget 2013-14, Khaunte said that government’s aim of zero corruption has failed, as there are few departments where the corruption is ever increasing.

“We talk of CCTVs. Actually what we want is central monitoring system for all these departments,” he said.

Due to closure of the mining industry, he said, the state has to be dependent on three sectors – tourism, agriculture and industries.

He accused BJP-led government of having unplanned development in last one year on the tourism front.

The Porvorim MLA pointed out that the projects like Oceanarium which were promised in the last budget did not see the light of day.

“Carnival and food festival should have been properly planned national and international media would have come, locals enjoyed but it was not worth spending so much,” he added.

He suggested that Carnival should be developed on the lines of Dubai Shopping Festival.

Regarding the industrial sector, Khaunte said that infrastructure should be first created so that investors get attracted to invest in Goa. “Why will the investors come when there is no infrastructure? …IT students are working as clerks…” he said.
