PANJIM: The National Students Union of India (NSUI), Goa unit has claimed that the government decision to grant 50 per cent fee waiver to students opting for professional courses was due to their persistent demand.
“The NSUI had been demanding that professional college students should be granted at least 50 % fee reduction,” said NSUI Goa president Naushad Chowdhari.
“The government’s notification granting partial relief to students of technical education is what we were demanding in the interest of students. The government at last woke up to the current situation,” Chowdhari said.
“Better late than never, government accepted NSUI’s demand to alleviate financial burden on students seeking technical education,” he said.
Chowdhari said that COVID-19 has financially affected many families and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who is also the education minister, must realise that future prospects of the students are not impacted due to COVID-19 pandemic.
“NSUI has often rallied behind the students community and will continue to do so. If the government had resorted to further delay tactics, we would have come on the streets seeking justice for all the students,” he said.
After relentless effort, the NSUI Goa had also succeeded in getting a partial fee cut towards college fees this academic year.
It once again reminded the government to refund minimum 50 per cent fees to those students, who had made full fee payment for the academic year 2020-2021.
The NSUI further demanded that 50 per cent of the college fees should be collected in installments.
