PORVORIM: The State government is contemplating making registration mandatory for those hiring bouncers or similar staff for personal security and protection.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday that a Bill to this effect will be introduced. He also announced plans to connect CCTVs installed at public places with the Goa Police department for effective surveillance.

The issue of hired bouncers gained attention during the notorious incident of house demolition in Assagao, where bouncers were deployed while the house was being demolished using earth-moving machines.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai highlighted incidents of land grab and recounted how bouncers had reportedly held French actress Marianne Borgo hostage in her Calangute house last year. He criticised the Calangute police for refusing to intervene, citing it as a civil matter. He also mentioned an incident involving a Nepali woman allegedly attempting property grab with the help of goons, questioning whether the activities of bouncers should be legalised.
Expressing concern over rising criminal activities, Sardesai pointed out that from 2022 to the present, the average detection rate was 62.92%, but the conviction rate was low at 6.18%. This statistic indicates that while two out of three cases were detected, only six out of 100 cases led to convictions.
