MARGAO: Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat strongly criticised the government for prematurely declaring Goa as 100% Open Defecation Free (ODF) and tweeted that this kind of announcement was expected as “This is expected from the Government which has mastered the art of manipulating facts and figures to create fake feeling of Acche Din”.
Even though the government has failed to provide large number of people adequate toilets to satisfy their needs, the declaration will make all those forced to use open spaces to answer nature’s call will now be converted to criminals, he said.
While pointing out that in the legislative assembly the government had admitted that there were huge number of houses without toilet facilities, Digambar wondered how the government could ignore these facts and figures to create the false picture of Goa being open defecation free.
Digambar pointed out that tenants face a problem with toilets as the landlords do not give them permission to construct one and hence demanded that the this issue needs to be dealt with seriously by finding solutions instead of merely making announcements.
