Forest and Environment Minister Rajendra Arlekar on Friday said that in giving a further push to the eco-tourism initiative in the State, efforts need to be made to develop eco-tourism villages in forest areas. “However, this can be done without violating any rules or regulations of Forest and Environmental Acts. There should not be any damage to environment,” he said.
The Minister was speaking at the launch of Goa Forest Department website, an attempt made to bring forest and wildlife closer to the people. “The eco-tourism project will give a major boost to local employment generation,” the minister said.
“Environment and development are not two controversial words but complimentary words and need to go hand in hand,” he commented. Arlekar also laid emphasis on the need to promote bamboo plantations in the State.
The new website www.forest.goa.gov.in has been redesigned by the Info Tech Corporation Goa Ltd. It provides information on various Forest Regulations, Forest Acts, Rules and Legislations as applicable in Goa. A provision has been made for Online Forest Clearance.
