MARGAO: The government is toying with the idea of shifting the Margao bus stand to the GSUDA acquired land opposite the new Collectorate building, even as it has set a deadline of December 19, 2013 for the inauguration of the South district hospital.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday threw the proposal of shifting of the bus stand from the existing site to the GSUDA land admeasuring 1.35 lakh sq mts right opposite the new Collectorate building for a debate. “Let there be a public debate on the proposal. We have not taken any decision so far. The existing bus stand site can be used for exhibitions, while the bus stand can come up on the acquired land,” he said, adding that the government is committed to solve the long-standing demand for a full-fledged bus stand for Margao.
Meanwhile, Parrikar said the government has set December 19, 2013 as the deadline for the inauguration of the South Goa district hospital. “Like the new Collectorate building, the district hospital is also a white elephant. Initially, the government had planned a 400-bedded hospital, but the beds then jumped to 803. We are in the process of reducing the bed strength to 500 and utilize the top two floors of the building to start a paramedic course,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister ruled out selling any government asset even on PPP, saying that no one should bother about the state revenue. “I am not going to sell any government asset. Our revenues are better than last year though there was a shortfall of revenue of Rs 850 crore. No government asset, other than the condemned vehicles will be sold,” he said, when newsmen asked whether the government has any plans to sell the office premises of some of the revenue departments after their shifting to the new Collectorate.
