MARGAO: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Saturday said the government would soon place before the Goa Board of Education panel names of eminent Goan personalities, including the master of Hypnotism Abbe Faria for recognition in the school text books.
Speaking at the 258th birth anniversary of Abbe Faria organised by the Goenkaranchem Daiz in collaboration with the Indian Psychiatric Society, West Zone and Ravindra Bhavan, Margao here today, Parrikar said that apart from Abbe Faria, there are many Goans who have fought for Goa’s and India’s freedom and merit recognition.
“Let the Goa Board of Education take a call on the recognition of Abbe Faria and other eminent Goans who have done Goa proud in their respective fields. The BJP government will not interfere with the process of recognition. I do not want the process to be scuttled like the CD on Goa’s freedom struggle. We will recognise Abbe Faria and many others, but through a process. Let the Board do a serious study on the issue,” he said.
Parrikar conceded that he was not aware of the importance of Abbe Faria. “Abbe Faria has given hypnotism to the world, which has helped to cure patients. Psychiatry and counselling are very important. We have introduced counselling in our schools. We had initial hiccups to get the trained and qualified experts, but after training we will come to see the result within 2-3 years,” he said.
Referring to the demands placed by the Abbe Faria commemoration committee, Parrikar agreed with most of the demands, but called upon the Committee to submit a detailed note. “I am given a blanket assurance on the demands, but I do not like to give a specific cheque,” he said.
