VASCO: Former chief minister and present Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said the structures at Baina beach were demolished following the law and it is the responsibility of the State to help those affected.
He said he is sure the State government would find ways to help the people who lost their structures in the demolition. Parrikar was addressing BJP workers in port town on Wednesday. He also addressed five meetings attended by BJP-backed candidates.
“I was told that structures were demolished at Baina to comply with the law of the land and despite repeated requests by MLA Milind Naik these structures could not be saved. Now the State should help the people and I will see to it that whatever help is possible will be given,” he said.
Commenting on the municipal elections, Parrikar said, “For any party all elections are important. It is important to have a chain connection from the municipality to the State and then the Central government. If at all levels there are people from one party then getting development becomes easier, therefore I would ask the people to vote for BJP-backed candidates,” he said.
He added that after development of Panjim under the smart city scheme he will see to it that other towns in Goa would be developed. “At present we have selected Panjim to be converted into a smart city and in future when we will have councils formed by BJP-backed panels then other town will be slowly developed as smart city. For that people need to get BJP-backed candidates elected to ensure all round development,” the former chief minister said.
Speaking about his achievements since shifting to Delhi, Parrikar said, “Though I have shifted to Delhi I have one eye on Goa and I always think how to develop Goa and till now I have got the pending four- lane highway work cleared, Zuari bridge cleared, and various road and bridge works worth Rs 5000 crore cleared.”
