PANJIM: Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) and Public Works Department (PWD) are expected to submit a status report on the completion of works to the approach roads to Atal Setu. The submission of report will be followed by clearing of the debris near the roads so as to install road signage for those entering the Panjim city.
“The officials from GSIDC and PWD agreed to submit an updated status report of the completed works pertaining to the approach roads to the Atal Sethu bridge so that the debris near the roads and below the bridge can be cleared. This will help the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) and Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) to prepare appropriate Road Safety signage for those entering the KTC Bus Stand and Panjim city,” GOACAN Co-ordinator Roland Martins told the media after a joint inspection of related departments and agencies of the Panjim Bus Stand.

The Traffic Police has agreed to examine the signage required and make arrangements for the same, keeping in mind the large number of vehicles that will come in from North and South Goa once the tourism season picks up. In view of this development, the inspection team has identified September 27 as the second deadline for road safety improvements outside the KTC Bus Stand, first being August 15 wherein the most pressing issues will be deliberated.
Among the issues that were identified as needing urgent attention were the broken shades of the bus bays, protruding bent rods, the missing interlocking pavers, removal of debris, trimming of trees, towing of abandoned buses and bikes. The inspection also noted issues such as the passage blockage due to a new kiosk, alignment of pathways for Persons with Disabilities and senior citizens, repainting of the pedestrian crossing besides identification of proper entry and exit signage.
The shops selling flowers came under the scrutiny of the CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate who joined the inspection midway and assured the various department officials that CCP would examine the footpaths and pathways blockage which had become a problem for movement of pedestrians. The need for clear passage for Fire Brigade vehicles in case of an emergency was also highlighted while also repair of the pedestrian entrance to the Bus stand near Shram Shakti Bhavan Patto and near Rego Hotel, pay parking slots available for two wheelers and four wheelers with proper signage; all of which will be handled by respective departments, were also examined.
