GSM condemns demand for Sequeira statue

PANJIM: Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) on Tuesday deplored the efforts of Goa Forward Party (GFP) to politicise the Opinion Poll which, they said, was to neutralise the anger of Catholic voters against the party for its support to the BJP.
“GSM condemns the demand of GFP president Vijai Sardesai for erecting a statue of Dr Jack de Sequeira in the compound of the Legislative Assembly which is obviously meant to placate angry Christian voters,” GSM President Anand Shirodkar said.
“Erecting any other statue in the compound of the Assembly will amount to insulting the memory of Bhausaheb Bandodkar,” he added,
He said that calling Sequeira the father of the Opinion Poll is insulting to other stalwarts responsible for preserving Goa. “Instead of erecting the statue of a leader of United Goan’s Party, it would be appropriate to erect a marble granite plaque carrying names of leaders of all political parties involved in the anti-merger movement, including the Opinion Poll,” he added.
