VASCO: Goa Suraksha Manch on Saturday strongly objected to the government seeking funds from the Centre to the tune of Rs 100 crore for conducting year-long programmes to celebrate the 60th year of the Liberation of the State.
GSM suggested that such huge funds should be utilised on resolving unsettled payment issues of public servants, incomplete public utility projects and most importantly on the health sector during the COVID-19 pandemic.

At press conference in Port Town, GSM Mormugao head Nitin Phaldessai said, “GSM has strong objection to the misutilisation of such huge amount of government funds on the 60th Goa Liberation Day celebration which is expected to be mostly of entertainment programmes. GSM feels that such amount of Central government’s fund which the Chief Minister is likely to get it for Goa, should be utilised for settling salaries of the public servants, Goan seafarers’ issues, to complete several public projects and most importantly on improving of health facilities which is the need of the hour during this testing time of COVID-19.”
GSM leaders from Mormugao also questioned the government why is it undertaking the anniversary celebrations during the COVID-19 pandemic time when the danger is lurking.
