MARGAO: In a development that has raised many an eyebrow, inspection of a fish meal plant at Subdolem in Barcem village has revealed that the plant was operating without the consent of the Goa State Pollution Control Board.
A GSPCB team descended on the plant site Friday morning following complaints by local residents of environmental pollution caused by the unit.
GSPCB Chairman Jose Manuel Noronha said the plant was found closed when a pollution board team reached the site this morning. He, however, hastened to add that inquiries have revealed that the plant was operating without the mandatory consent to operate though the owner had applied for permission. “The Board did not given any consent to operate the fish meal plant.”
