“The inspection at Cuncolim Industrial estate was carried out to take stock of the pollution caused there and we visited the following units. The United Marine (Fishmeal plant), John Distilleries, Nicomet Industries, all steel units and all fish processing units,” said Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) Chairman, Jose Manuel Noronha.
“We also discussed the installation of a common effluent treatment facility there and the fish processing units have decided to contribute Rs 25 lakhs each towards this facility. Nicomet was issued directions in relation to the test wells of the captive land fill site within their premises and the fish meal plant was asked to rework their process engineering and place before the board for approval so that odour in and around the estate generated by their unit is eliminated,” said Noronha.
He added that the steel units which had not installed Air Pollution Control devices were directed to do so by December 2015.
