PANJIM: The State government on Thursday appointed the Goa Solid Waste Management Corporation (GSWMC) as the nodal agency for relocating scrap yards in the State.
The notification in this regard was published by Under Secretary Industries AS Mahatme.
For orderly establishment of waste (scrap) recycling units in the State of Goa, the Government has formulated the Goa Waste (Scrap) Recycling Units Scheme, 2010, as per the assurance given by the State government before the High Court.
However, as the process of establishing trade zones could not be completed within the time limit, the Scheme was further extended for a period of two years.
The scheme was again extended for a period of one year till 28-04-17.
Hence, the Government appointed the Goa Waste Management Corporation as the Nodal Agency for relocating scrap yards in the Goa and all matters related thereto.
The notification says that the Directorate of Industries, Trade and Commerce, Panjim has been directed to handover all the files pertaining to the Goa Waste (Scrap) Recycling Units Scheme, 2010 to the Goa Waste Management Corporation.
Meanwhile, the government also appointed Directorate of Higher Education as the Nodal Agency for setting up bio-Incubator facility at Goa University, Taleigao.
Government intends to set up a biotechnology incubator in the State in terms of the Biotechnological Policy notified on July 13, 2006 for providing an opportunity to the prospective entrepreneurs to develop, test, process their ideas/projects at a laboratory and at reasonable costs.
