PANJIM: Anti-Corruption Branch of the Vigilance Department on Thursday caught Goa University executive engineer Amit Srivastava while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from staff of the housekeeping firm Panorama Enterprises owned by Hema Sundar Reddy.
ACB officials said that based on the complaint from one Gopi Narayan Peket an FIR was registered on Wednesday based on evidence submitted by the complainant. Accordingly a trap was laid on Thursday morning near Ocean Park residential complex in Dona Paula where the bribe money was to be exchanged.
The ACB team caught Srivastava red-handed while accepting the bribe amount near the main entrance of the residential complex. He was later taken into custody by ACB.
According to complaint, the executive engineer was demanding five percent of the total value of the work awarded to the housekeeping firm of the Goa University campus buildings. Reddy had bagged the contract for an amount of Rs 50,00,584 per annum in July, 2017.
The complainant said that Srivastava continued to harass the owner of the firm to pay the bribe amount, from July 2017, and the amount was negotiated to Rs 50,000.
Police Inspector Francis Corte is investigating the case under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Priyanka Kashyap (IPS).
Srivastava has been charged with section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The ACB team also searched his residence in Dona Paula during the investigation.
