Chemistry gets an additional eight seats raising the total from 72 to 80, while Mathematics and Physics, which have 35 and 25 seats respectively, have been given an additional 10 seats each. Registrar V P Shetye said that Science subjects are in more demand among the students.
Meanwhile, in a fresh decision that could act as a setback to certain colleges, GU at the recently held academic council meeting decided to rationalize the intake capacity depending on the demand. The council will hold another meeting after June 30, when the HSSC’s supplementary exam results will be announced.
Various undergraduate colleges had raised apprehensions over possible shortage of seats owing to increasing number of higher secondary students passing out every year. The list of admission seekers rose this academic year with 4,000 more students passing out this year as compared to last year.
