CANACONA: A stretch in Devabhaga-Canacona has turned into an accident-prone zone due to haphazard parking of all kinds of vehicles on either side of the road.
A number of mishaps have been reported in the area in the past few months. Incidentally, this is the spot where Agonda Panch Sapnesh Dessai, who was riding a motorcycle, met with an accident, thereby sustaining multiple injuries before going into coma on January 26.
Dessai had collided with a rickshaw, which had blocked the road after vehicles had blocked both sides of the road. Desai suffered severe injuries and was battling for life at a Margao hospital; unfortunately he passed away a few days back
“Customers visit a restaurant located just across the road and haphazardly park their vehicles on both sides of the road, blocking free access to other vehicles,” said a motorist, Caitan Fernandes.
Sources told Herald that soon after the mishap involving Agonda panch, vehicles were seen parked in the paddy field for only a few days.
The motorists also blamed the police beat vehicles for failing to direct the restaurant owners to enforce proper parking along the road.
“Several motorists have been involved in minor mishaps in the last few months. Another serious accident could easily take place at the location, if nothing is done to remedy the situation,” informed another regular motorist, Dayanand, who uses this road everyday to go to work and return home. He said he does not have a choice as this is the only road to his house and home.
