BICHOLIM: All Goa Truck Owners Association (AGTOA) members have decided to keep their vehicles off the roads until the issue of ore transportation rates is resolved by the government.
AGTOA had a meeting on Friday with Vedanta management to press for an increase in the transportation rates. As Vedanta turned down their demand, they have decided to keep their trucks off-roads till November 4, when a meeting has been fixed with the chief minister to resolve the issue.
At a press conference, AGTO president Nilkanth Gawas stated that Vedanta was not ready to increase the transportation rate by even a single paisa, even when Sanquelim MLA Dr Pramod Sawant intervened in the matter.
“As the company is not ready to meet our demands, we have decided to go on strike and meet the CM to resolve the issue,” said Gawas.
AGTOA has called upon the truck operators to support its strike, which will begin at 8.30 am.
